In My Kitchen – April Home Improvements

In My Kitchen: Kitchen Remodelling

As you know, we’ve been living in a dustbowl since mid-February. Today, however, things began to take shape. The new fridge-freezer was delivered, and the kitchen fitters started work on the base cupboards. Nothing is nailed or screwed or fixed permanently yet, so it was suggested that we not open drawers or play with swinging wire racks or poke around in the deep drawers. In other words, we can look but we mustn’t touch because the taller units might topple over on one’s head. Which of course could be a bit of a headache. We were very good. Well behaved. For about 5 minutes, and then we started to peak into drawers and giggle at self-closing doors, and “Hey, look at this little garbage bin!” – you know that sort of childlike behaviour. Well, we are old, and I believe a second childhood is to be expected. So here are a few photos taken today.

Hi Misk, How much longer until it is all finished?

    1. Misky says:

Possibly two more weeks. Possibly more. You know how builders are!

      1. Glenda says:

Wow, that is not long. It is going to look fab.

        1. Misky says:

That’s two weeks for the kitchen. They still have other stuff they’re doing, too. But … I’m hoping to have use of the kitchen again by mid-April. Fingers crossed!

Getting there… how exciting for you Misk…. imagine the storm you’re going to cook up ; )

    1. Misky says:

After I read the user manuals. The new oven is more complicated than old old old old oven. 😀

  5. Ooh everything is coming along so nicely! Bet you cannot wait for it all to be finished!
    🙂 Mandy

      Can’t wait, can’t wait, can’t wait!! 🙂

      1. What’s the first thing you going to cook and bake?

        1. Misky says:

Oooh, good question, Mandy. Let me think … Bake: dark rye bread. Cook: early season asparagus before they’re all gone!

          1. Think I should come and be your taste tester…

            1. Misky says:

              😀 Sounds great!

  6. It’s taking shape – not long now!

    1. Misky says:

The worktop template man is due on Friday! Then the hob can be fitted, and I’ll have running water in the kitchen sink again. The lack of water in the kitchen is really theeee most inconvenient aspect of this.

  7. Misky, it’s such a lovely space! How nice to watch it take shape! Thanks for sharing with us.. xx

    1. Misky says:

Entirely my pleasure, Celia … although I’m not impressed with having to fetch buckets and jugs of water from the outside tap because all the water’s been shut off in the kitchen. (grump-grump)

  8. theintolerantchef says:

I’m remodeling my kitchen this year too, I’m sure not looking forward to the mess though! Yours is looking great so far:)

    1. Misky says:

Flu has swept through my workmen, so they’ve not been around for a few days.

The most annoying thing right now: I want the water reconnected in the kitchen, but I have to wait until the granite worktop is fitted next week. That lack of water is very inconvenient because only the water in the kitchen is coming straight off the mains. Water from the bathroom taps is gravity-fed from tanks in the loft, so not particularly suitable for drinking straight from the tap.
